Marilyn H. Spillane

Marilyn Elizabeth Hammond Spillane, 94, died Saturday, July 8, 2023.  Marilyn was born February 7, 1929, in Kreole, Mississippi to Walter Gilmore Hammond and Hazel Fletcher Hammond.  Most of her childhood was spent in Mobile, Alabama, graduating from Murphy High School, class of 1946.  She met the love of her life, Thomas Michael Spillane, on a blind date and they later married on May 1, 1954, in Mobile, AL.  Marilyn and Thomas made their home in Savannah and were blessed with 3 daughters, Susan Elizabeth, Teresa Odette, and Marilyn Anne. 

Marilyn volunteered for many years at Blessed Sacrament School in Savannah where her children attended grade school.  She enjoyed being active and served in many roles ranging from helping in the school cafeteria, being room mother for many classes, and even served as President of the Home and School Association in 1969.  She was a patron of the arts and enjoyed sharing her time and talents with the Savannah Little Theater, Girl Scouts of America, and Ballet South.  Over the years, she thoroughly loved playing in several bridge groups with her friends. 

Predeceased, in addition to her parents, and mother-in-law and father-in-law, are her husband of 44 years, Thomas Spillane, a daughter, Teresa Spillane, son-in-law, Herbert Hodges, sister-in-law, Janet Spillane, and brother-in-law, Charles Spillane. 

Marilyn is survived by her daughters, Susan Spillane Lai (Ken); Marilyn Anne Spillane-Hodges; 4 grandchildren, Amanda Crosby (Jason), Mark Adcock, Jr., Jaydon Hodges, Logan Hodges, and 1 step-grandchild.  Additionally, she was blessed with 4 great-grandchildren who will forever cherish their memories of Gigi.

Visitation will be 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 15, 2023, at Fox & Weeks, Hodgson Chapel. 

Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 15, 2023, at Fox & Weeks, Hodgson Chapel with burial to follow in Bonaventure Cemetery.

The family requests memorial be sent to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Richmond Hill, or G.H.C. Hospice.  

The family would like to graciousley thank the staff at Sunabella, for their kind and loving care to Mrs. Spillane.
